Happy Pockets with Candace Perkins

Pocket pages can be so fun to create, but how do you coordinate all of those little canvases across a big double-page spread? Using products from our shop is one way, as they are specially coordinated to work together seamlessly! Today, design team member Candace Perkins is here to give us some tips on how to get the most out of your pocket pages! Let’s take a look:

Hello friends! It’s Candace here with you to share a bit of pocket page inspiration using the June 2018 Kit and extras in the shop. I had so much fun creating this spread! Even with the summer theme and colors of the kit, I was able to complete a spread all about an everyday week in November. I pulled out the June Kit along with the coordinating extras and a few stamp sets from the shop and I got to creating and playing!

I started by filling the pockets with photos from the week and coordinating tags from the June Kit. I also used a few of the So Very Happy Printable tags this month to add the “love you” filler tag and “so very happy” journaling tag—which I added my journaling directly to the digital file before printing.

Here are a few tips and tricks that helped me bring this spread together in a snap:

1. Use coordinating fonts across your spread for balance and to create a theme. The words “hashtag,” “together,” and “the best,” all from the Title Builder Vol. 2 Stamp help to tie the left and right sides of my spread together.
2. Add dimension to your tags by cutting out shapes and popping them up directly on top of your cards.

3. Try using shaped tags in the pockets, like the Kraft Tags.

4. Create a focal point on your spread using large stickers, fonts or sentiments, like I did here using the Hello Happy Puffy Words and Title Builder Vol. 2 Wood Veneer:

This was such a fun spread to create! I loved playing with all the June goodies. I hope this inspires you and gives you a few ideas on how to use your June Kit to document your special moments and memories. I can’t wait to see what you create!

A Celebratory Mini Album with Laura Wonsik

One of our newest products is made just for mini projects: the Aqua Acrylic Album! This beautiful, bright acrylic bundle comes with a front and back cover, sized at 6″ x 4″, as well as two 1-1/2″ book rings. All you have to do is create the interior pages to tell a story that is anything but miniature! Design team member Laura Wonsik did just that with the mini album that she’s sharing with you today, and we know it will give you all kinds of ideas for how to craft one of your own! Let’s take a look:

Hello! It’s Laura Wonsik here, and I have to tell you, I have been scrapbooking for a (really) long time but I have never seen a mini-album quite like this new acrylic one! I was so excited to fill it up because as soon as I saw it I knew just what stories I wanted it to hold.

My best friend’s son’s birthday is coming up and she really loved the last mini album I made for her, so I decided to make another one!

This album comes with really big binder rings, which made me realize that this album is perfect to grow along with her son!

My friend has a tradition of taking a photo of her son every year with the number of balloons of his age.

I asked her to email me the photos from the last three birthdays as well as the day he was born and I created a mini birthday album that is meant to be added to every year. She wrote a few sentences about the year, as well as documentation about his birthday party.

Every year from now on, my gift to Max will be sending him two 4″ x 6″ photos, printed out and ready to be placed in the album as well as some journaling that his mom sends to me.

I hope that you find a great way to use this album yourself, and let’s all wish Max a big, happy 4th birthday!

Stamped Label Fun with Nancy Damiano

The Hazel Alphabet Stamp has the perfect sized typewriter font for any type of project—including pocket pages! Today, we have Nancy Damiano with us to share a colorful pocket page that includes lovely Hazel Alphabet stamped labels to notate her titles and create repetition on her page. Let’s take a look:

Hey there Elle fans! It’s Nancy here today with a look at the Hazel Alphabet Stamp. Let’s put it to work on a pocket page full of vacation memories!

Supplies | June 2018 Kit, Hello Happy Puffy Words, Hazel Alphabet Stamp, All the Details StampNoteworthy Double-Sided Journaling TagsNoteworthy Epoxy Stickers

The smaller size and typographic font of the Hazel Alphabet Stamp make it perfect for filling out all of those pretty little label die cuts in the monthly kits. I used dye based inks to get a clear, crisp stamped image every time.

The ink colors were coordinated to match the color in the labels from the June 2018 Kit. This gives it a custom look while giving the entire design a streamlined look. Each label describes the photo it’s placed on with the who or where of where it was taken.

Remember that you can also stamp right on the 4″ x 6″ tags, or even on the photos themselves. Just be sure to use Staz-On ink so that the titles don’t smear.

I love that the Hazel Alphabet Stamp has the look of a giant typewriter. It’s just big enough for bold titles, but small enough for all of those labels and fill in the blank tags in the monthly kits. Add some color and get busy stamping your titles out!

One Product, Three Ways: Chloe Alphabet Stamp

Have you checked out our newest alphabet stamp in the shop? The Chloe Alphabet Stamp is playful and whimsical, just what you need to round out the other alphas in your stash! Today we have Nathalie Leonelli, Susan Brochu and Neela Nalam sharing how they used this new alphabet stamp in fun and creative ways. Let’s see what they created:

NATHALIE | Hello, this is Nathalie and I am here to share with you how I was inspired by the just released Chloe Alphabet Stamp in the creation of one of my pocket spreads:

Supplies | June 2018 Kit, Kraft TagsJune Blank Label Stickers, Puffy Star StickersBright Hand Drawn Acrylic HeartsChloe Alphabet Stamp

What a fun font! I ended up using it in several different ways. First, I stamped with the capital letters and numbers on a kraft tag to indicate the dates on my title tag. I also created bullet points by using the “+” sign sideways on a journaling tag from the June Kit. I also stamped with the lower case letters to stamp a single word from my son’s vocabulary. It fits nicely onto a label and adds a personal touch. Also, remember to think creatively and look at your alpha stamps as pattern makers! I used the lower case “W” to create scallops on this blue striped tag, and I love the result:

Finally, I switched to StazOn ink and stamped directly onto my photo because I am a big fan of that look. I love that this set includes upper and lower cases plus lots of symbols, such as the quotation marks. It is the only alpha stamp I own that has them!
Now let’s look at the many more uses you can get out of this fabulous set…

SUSAN | As soon as I saw the playful Chloe Alphabet Stamp, I knew I wanted to use it on a page featuring my daughters when they were young. Since the stamp set includes both upper and lowercase letters, it was perfectly suited for a long title that would make a big statement on my layout.

Supplies | Chloe Alphabet StampNoteworthy Bits and Pieces, Noteworthy Cutouts, Noteworthy Epoxy StickersNoteworthy 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Stack

The yellow striped background paper from the Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Stack that I selected for my background had ready-made guidelines for my stamping.  I stamped the key words using the  Chloe Alphabet Stamp in all capitals and used lowercase letters for the rest. And can I also say how much I love an alphabet stamp that includes punctuation?!

Once I filled the right side of the page with the title, I added two photos, matted on a blue striped paper from the Noteworthy 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack. I embellished with a few blue embellishments I pulled from the Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers, Noteworthy Bits and Pieces and Cutouts, and added a single yellow heart to connect the two photos. I hope I’ve given you some inspiration for making a bold, eye-catching title using this fun new stamp!

NEELA | The Chloe Alphabet Stamp has a fun and playful feel to it and I really like the fact that it has upper and lower case! I decided to make a card for my son who is graduating from the 8th grade with this alphabet stamp. I stamped the words “congrats” with the uppercase and “you” with the lower case in a staggered and playful manner to reflect the style of the stamp.

I also felt that I could complete the phrase using the word “absolutely” from the Title Builder Vol. 2 Stamp and then added the acrylic word “shine” to complete the phrase. I then stamped some diamond and asterisks from both of the stamp sets.

To add a pop of color and finish off the card, I added a strip of patterned paper at the top of the card from the Shine 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack.

Show us how you’re using the Chloe Alphabet Stamp by using the hashtag #EllesStudio when posting your project on Instagram! You could win a gift certificate to the shop, and be featured on our blog and Instagram feed just for sharing!

Vacation Life with Heather Leopard

Do you have a beach vacation planned this summer? How do you get that tropical-vibe on your layout that documents a favorite holiday memory? Get inspired by the tropical surroundings, the way that Heather Leopard did on the layout she’s sharing with us today! Take a look at what she created using our June 2018 Kit and add-ons:

Hi everyone! It’s Heather Leopard here, and I have a question. What do you think of when you dream of Hawaii? For me personally, I think of honu (turtles), hula/luau, pineapples, shaka, leis and of course palm trees.

Supplies | June 2018 Kit, Hello Happy Puffy Words, Summer Wood Veneer FramesShine Acrylic, Bright Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, Enamel Dots, Shine 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers, Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection

As you can see, Hawaii life, or at least Hawaii vacation life, was my inspiration for today’s layout.

To get started, I created the circular design of these images in Silhouette and added my photo. I contemplated what to do in the center and since I hadn’t used palm trees around the circle, I decided to fill the circle with them. At this point, I removed the palm trees and photo from the design and cut the circular elements and palm trees separately using my electronic die cut machine.

Once the elements were cut out, I decided to add some splashes of color, or “crashes” of colors similar to the waves the waves crashed on us last summer. They were pretty intense. I used mist mixed with water along with two methods to get this effect. One was the packaging method and the other was to blow the mist using a straw to attain the splashy look. Next, I backed each die cut shape with patterns from the 3″ x 4″ tags found in the  June 2018 Kit and from the 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack. I didn’t plan it, but the words in these patterned papers were the perfect size for some of these cut outs so that made me super happy!

I placed the numbers background paper from the Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection and the palm trees in the middle to complete that part of the design, added layers around my photo, adhering that to the page along with plenty of embellishments, like the Summer Wood Veneer Frames and Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers. I finished it off with the Shine Acrylic in one of the “crash zone” areas and will add private journaling on the green labels, cut from a 3″ x 4″ tag in the June Kit.

Thanks so much for checking out this fun, summer layout! Aloha!

Shine with Guest Designer Amy Gretchen

We are so excited to welcome our June guest designer, Amy Gretchen to the blog today to share her first project with you! We love Amy’s graphic, colorful projects, and she always finds fun, innovative ways to use product that give her layouts and pocket pages such awesome visual appeal! Join me in welcoming her today, and check out what she’s created using our June kit and add-ons:

Hi everyone. My name is Amy Gretchen and I’m delighted to be the guest designer this month. I thought this was a fun kit to work with for summer due to the rainbow of colors!

Supplies | June Blank Label Stickers, Hello Happy Puffy Words, Bright Hand Drawn Acrylic HeartsShine Acrylic

The first thing I was drawn to in the June add-ons was all the June Blank Label Stickers. I love labels, and knew I wanted to repeat them in some way. When I realized the Shine Acrylic word mimicked the same colors, I definitely wanted to use them together. I was also inspired by the word “shine” when it came to choosing a photo. I wanted the photo to be a focal point for this 12″ x 8″ inch layout so I made it large, at 6″ x 8″.

The first thing I did to assemble this layout was draw a line at the 8 inch mark in pencil that way I would know where to start placing the June Blank Label Stickers. I also cut the longer labels in half so I would be able to use what was left over for a different project. I then corresponded the labels with the color of each letter, and using Tombow mono liquid adhesive I adhered the letters slightly off center from the labels. I then added the word “you” from the Hello Happy Puffy Words right onto the photo and added one of the Bright Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts.

The last thing I did to finish the layout was to type out the journaling and cut it out in strips before adhering it down at the base of my layout.

I really love how this one turned out. It’s a simple layout, but has the impact I was hoping for with the large photo and bold title!

Hello. I’m Amy Gretchen and I live in Salt Lake City with my husband and three teenage daughters who keep life interesting. I have been filling up my book shelves with traditional scrapbooks for the past 15+ years and since then my passion has evolved to include everyday photography. I love how photos + words help me to see life more fully and have gratitude for the details. Documenting life on a weekly basis through pocket pages fits perfectly with my goal to capture the everyday moments and keep it simple.

I enjoy teaching what I love and currently share weekly process videos and tips on my YouTube channel to help inspire others to get their stories told. When I’m not documenting life I love to travel, eat chocolate, do jigsaw puzzles, listen to podcasts and learn something new. You can find more of my work on my YouTube feed, at my blog, and on Instagram!

Killing Your May 2018 Kit with Amanda-jayne Baldwin

How often do you kill your Elle’s Studio monthly kits? If you needed a little inspiration to pull out your May kit again before our June reveal, you have it today with Amanda-jayne Baldwin! She’s sharing an awesome layout, designed with a bit of creativity and the bare-bones of what she had left of her May 2018 Kit. Let’s take a look at what she created:

Hi Elle’s Studio friends! It’s Amanda here, and today I am sharing how I use up the left overs of my kits! Stash bust, kill your kit, call it what you want: the point is to use it all and be creative while we wait for our next kit to arrive!

The May 2018 Kit was an absolute stunner, and I made some truly pretty pages from it. But now what? When I looked at what I had left over as a whole, there wasn’t a commonality between anything! I had a few 3″ x 4″ tags, one 4″ x 6″ tag, and some die cuts left from the exclusive May Kit. I also had remnants of the Puffy Heart Stickers & Play All Day Phrase Stickers, some of the May Labels, as well as the Hazel Stamp! I had a bit of this and bit of that, until I grouped everything by color! Here’s what I came up with:

Supplies | May 2018 KitMay LabelsPlay All Day Phrase StickersPuffy Heart Stickers — Spring Mix, Hazel Alphabet Stamp

How fun is this?! Inspired by party banners, I decided to suspend my color blocked scraps together! I used some baker’s twine and ink from my personal stash, but otherwise everything else is from the May Kit and add-ons. Here’s a closer look for you:

How did I get SO many pieces? Lots of clever cutting using the May Kit 3″ x 4″ tags.

I used the negatives from the May die cut sheet as a stencil and drew the hearts, stars and tabs on the leftover 3″ x 4″ tags. I then fussy-cut them out to reveal ‘more’ embellishments than I actually had on hand.

While I had my trusty scissors handy, I fussy-cut the arrows from the 3″ x 4″ tag that featured 5 arrows on it, as well as the leftover labels. I also trimmed up the 4″ x 6″ tag into smaller squares to matte beneath my photo. I added the Play All Day Phrase Stickers to many of these embellishments, and then strung them along the twine in color blocks. To keep the design more cohesive, I kept the color blocks in rainbow order.

Tip: Having analogous colors together is more orderly and pleasing on the eye!

To strengthen the color block feature, I repeat stamped the plus sign symbol from the Hazel Alphabet Stamp. I stamped at varying angles to create a confetti appearance, and used coordinating inks. This stamping works beautifully with the banner design, and brings it all together!

I positioned some of the Spring Mix Puffy Heart Stickers onto the twine, and scattered others around the banner in their color block. To ensure my photo is the true hero of my layout, I placed it in the center of my final banner.

And there you have it! Kill your kit with a little creative fussy cutting, stamping and color blocking! I hope this inspires you to use up the last of your May Kit—just in time for you June kit to arrive!

Share how you’re using the scraps of your May Kit on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio! You could win a gift certificate to the shop, and be featured here on the blog, just for sharing and tagging!
