Inspired by a Sketch with Alissa Fast

Hello! It’s Alissa here today, with a page I created inspired by one of the amazing sketches included in the latest From Sketch to Finish Vol. 3 class, using the exclusive class stamp and the Family Fun collection! I always love a good sketch and these are truly amazing and perfect for all of your scrapping needs. They are even designed with the stamp set in mind. So, if you want to get more ideas on where to use stamp sets on your pages, this class, which includes 30 sketches, is a must!

I pretty much stuck to the sketch, with a few minor changes and additional stamping.

I added a few die cuts from the Family Fun Bits and Pieces and even stamped on one of the cute labels. It’s fun to stamp right on your background page, but I know it can be scary. That’s why these sketches are truly awesome! Just follow the sketch and you can’t go wrong.

Layer up those stamps or tuck them under your other page elements. I created the large photo mat and placed it before adhering it to the background so that I could get the stamped images peeking out from the edges.

Now, if you’re a sketch scrapper or you’re dying to try out stamping on your pages, go sign up for the class now! You’ll love the results!

Have a great day!

Our newest class, From Sketch to Finish Volume 3 is available with or without the 6″ x 8″ exclusive stamp, but only while supplies last. Have you been inspired by our newest class? We’d love to see what you’ve created! Please share your layout on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio so that we can see your work, have a chance to be featured here on our blog and win a $10 gift certificate to the shop!

Document December Prep with Meghann Andrew

Hey there, friends! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today. December is almost upon us, and since the holiday season is usually a busy time, I’m doing a bit of prep work on my Document December project in advance.

Supplies | Document December Kit, Cork CirclesDocument December StampStanley Numbers StampDated StampHoliday Plans Stamp

Since I’m having some storage issues with the abundance of mini albums I’ve made in the past, I’ve decided to put my December documentation in my normal 12″ x 12″ monthly pocket page album, but the month of December will be much more comprehensive than the previous months. Although I have a general idea of how I want my pages to look, I’m not one to lay it out in advance without my photos. So, I turned to my Document December Kit, along with my favorite technique, stamping, to do a bit of prep work!

First, I wanted to fill a few pockets for my title page to introduce the month in my album, and set these pages apart from the rest of the months of my year. The lovely script “December” 4″ x 6″ tag from the Document December Kit was perfect for the page, and I simply added the “create wonder, share joy” saying from the Document December Stamp in red below. I also added a red acrylic star and a few sequins from the kit for some sparkle. Below that, I wanted to set the colorway for my project on the 3″ x 4″ tags below. I chose the multicolored chevron, then simply added the “memories” chipboard circle from the Document December Kit. To the right, I created my own 3″ x 4″ tag using plain white cardstock and the Stanley Numbers Stamp. These numbers are just perfect for this project!

Speaking of numbers—did you know that the numbers in the Dated Stamp fit perfectly in these lovely little date tags included in the Document December Kit? I love using the same format to mark the date for each day I document, so getting these little labels stamped through the 25th is the perfect way to save a bit of time before the busy month arrives. I used black ink and stamped all of my dates in before cutting them apart so they’re ready to go into my album.

The Lil’ Snippet Labels included in the Document December Kit are also perfect for stamping in advance! I grabbed the Holiday Plans Stamp and started stamping the sayings that I knew I would use with green, red and black ink before cutting them apart to include in the perfect spot on my project.

After cutting apart, I added all of my stamped tags to my acrylic tray that includes my project embellishments so that I remember to add them to my album. To prep the remainder of my product from the Document December Kit, I removed all of the project packaging and added the patterned paper, tags, and stickers to an acrylic tray, which I will store on the top shelf of my Raskog cart, just an arm length away from my workspace next to my Stanley Number, Dated, Holiday Plans and Document December stamps!

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! We’d love to see how you’re prepping your Document December project! Post a photo of your prep work to Instagram using the hashtag #ElleStudio to show us and possibly win a $10 gift certificate to the Elle’s Studio shop!

Celebrating Togetherness with Guest Missy Whidden

This month is all about giving thanks and celebrating what we have with our friends and family. What better way to document these moments than a layout using our Family Fun collection? Today our November guest designer, Missy Whidden is sharing a beautiful layout that we’re sure will leave you inspired! Let’s take a look!

Hello again, friends! It’s Missy here with my second layout as the November guest designer. For this page, I used the November Kit and the Family Fun collection. As I was sorting through the papers of the collection, I noticed how beautiful and bright the colors were, and decided to create a rainbow color scheme to scrap this photo of me, my sisters and our grandma. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out some open block letters to spell FAMILY and used some of the patterned papers to back them. I used one of the Family Fun Puffy Stickers as a secondary title, and I love how the script looks against the block letters. I centered my photo and embellished around it.

Supplies | November 2017 KitFamily Fun Double-Sided Journaling Tags, Family Fun Bits and Pieces, Family Fun Acrylic, Family Fun Puffy Stickers, Family Fun 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection, Family Fun Stamp

Backing cut files with paper is one of my favorite techniques, and it’s really easy! It’s a great way to get lots of color and patterns on your page without it being overwhelming or too busy. I stitched through the word with my sewing machine for added texture, then added blue tangled thread and adhesive foam under the puffy “together” sticker from the Family Fun Puffy Stickers. I love the dimension this creates!

The Family Fun collection has the best die cut pieces in the Bits and Pieces! I just had to use the two beautiful flowers on both sides of my photo. I used one of the 3″ x 4″ Family Fun Double-Sided Journaling Tags behind my photo to add a pop of orange, and I also added a touch of pink with the little heart die cut. I wanted to add a bit of something more to the background, so I did a little stamping using the open plus sign from the Family Fun Stamp.

I used the dotted paper from the Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection as my background, but I wanted to fade out some of the black dots, so I covered a lot of the center with white acrylic paint. Once that dried, I used some aqua and bright blue ink sprays with plastic packaging to create the watercolor look. I wanted to add some pops of red, so I reached for some of the small die cuts from the November 2017 Kit, like the “moments like this” speech bubble I added right on top of the photo. I also added a bit more stamping using the Family Fun Stamp above the picture.

I just adore the cute acrylic shapes in the Family Fun Acrylic! I loved how this yellow heart looked down by the title. The rainbow letters really pop off the page, and the photo pops as well with the black and white. I added some black, pink and yellow splatters around the page to finish things off.

I hope this inspires you in some way! This layout was fun to make, and it shows how versatile the kits and collections are. I’ll take a rainbow color scheme any day! Thank you so much for stopping by, and I’ll see you again next week!

Hey, friends!  I’m Missy Whidden from sunny Florida, USA.  I’ve been married to my college sweetheart for almost 18 years, and we have two beautiful daughters.  Reese is 11 and Paige is 8.5.  They are both autistic and nonverbal which means life in our house is never dull or boring.  They are both precious and we just love them to pieces.  I began scrapbooking over ten years ago when my mother-in-law asked me to help her put a baby book together of my husband’s photos.  I was instantly intrigued by the deco scissors, paper and stickers.  I began scrapping our travel photos and just fell in love with the creative process.  I’ve been scrapping photos of our kids and family ever since, and I just love it.  I love using mixed media on my layouts, especially watercolors, ink sprays and paints.  I also love using my Silhouette Cameo and sewing machine on my pages.  I’m honored to be on several design teams, and it has been the greatest experience.  When I’m not at my craft desk, you can find me at the gym teaching fitness classes or blowing off stress in the weight room.  I also love reading, watching Netflix and eating delicious food.  I’m so happy to the Guest Designer here this month.  Thank you so much for having me!

Everyday Documentation + Process Video with Jen Schow

At first glance, the November Kit and extras look primed to document the upcoming holiday season, but take another look! With plenty of sentiments and tags to document everyday life, the possibilities of stories to tell are endless. Today, Jen Schow is showing us how she used these tags to create a layout about a special person in her life. Let’s take a look.

Hello again! It’s Jen here to share another layout + process video with you using the November 2017 Kit and extras. Elle has a great way of making sure there’s a good mix of holiday and everyday type journaling tags and die cuts in the kits each month, and for today’s layout, I pulled out all of the tags and die cuts that were more generic.

Supplies | November 2017 Kit, Giving Thanks Puffy Stickers, Pure Joy StampDays of the Week Stamp, Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp – Solid

I love that the tags included in the kit were blue and gray because they happened to match my photo perfectly! I lined all of my tags up in a haphazard stack on the left side of my page leaving a space for journaling on the bottom tag.

I tucked little bits and pieces from the kit die cuts, the Giving Thanks Puffy Stickers, and some stamps from the Pure Joy Stamp all around the layers of my journaling tags.

I added a title above my photo with the Giving Thanks Puffy Stickers and the solid Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp. Those stamps are soooo perfect for subtitles! I added a few more die cuts and stickers to create a little cluster to the right of my title to balance all of the embellishment on the other side of the page, added some paint splatters and called it good.

You can see how the whole thing came together in my process video below!

Document December Project Preparation with Laura Hager

It’s that time of year again: time to get prepped for our December documentation projects. Whether you’re creating a mini album, documenting in your monthly pocket pages or creating layouts, organization and prep work is key to finishing off your project by the end of 2017. Today we’re going to take a look at how Laura Hager is getting her Elle’s Studio supplies ready for this magical project!

Supplies | Document December Kit, Holiday Plans Stamp, Document December Stamp, Cork Circles, Christmas Puffy Heart Stickers, Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Red Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp – Outline, Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp – Solid

I’m so excited that December is almost here! I tried doing a December album last year, but I ended up getting sick for most of December and didn’t have many cute pictures to document. This year, I’ve come up with a strategy to make the December album easier to complete.

I started prepping my album by gathering my favorite supplies from the photo above—I love how well all these products work together. After I had my stash of product, I decided to unpack my Document December Kit. Everything in the kit is so cute!

Unpacking pretty paper products is one of my favorite parts of scrapbooking! I sorted all the pieces of the kit into piles of paper, embellishments, and stamps.

Part of what made the project hard for me to complete last year is that I didn’t have all of my supplies together. This time around, I decided to make a little basket of all my December album supplies. This will make it so easy for me to print a photo and dive right into scrapbooking.

In my basket, I packed all of the Elle’s Studio products listed above, a white 6″ x 8″ album, pocket page protectors, my tiny attacher, roller tape, three ink pads (gold, green, and black),small scissors, and a date stamp. This is pretty much everything I think I will need to complete my pages! If I decide I need more tools or products, I will add them as I go.

Another part of what made my album difficult to complete last year is that I re-made too many layouts. Then the layouts didn’t end up matching my photos and I felt like I had to redo everything. After my mistakes last year, I had a better idea of what I needed to get started this time doing the project. I knew I needed a cover page, so I began sorting through the patterned papers from the kit.

I knew that I wanted to use the gray “December 2017” puffy stickers in the Document December Kit. To try out different papers with the letters, I cut them out so they were still on the plastic, allowing me to lay the sticker over different papers. I loved the pattern with the little trees and it was still easy to read the puffy stickers. I was obsessed with the wood veneer confetti from the Document December Kit and I knew I wanted it on the front page. To complete the page, I stuck the puffy stickers to the page and sprinkled some confetti into the pocket page. I sealed it by using my Fuse tool.

I wanted to prep a few more pages, so I looked through all the patterned papers and journaling tags to come up with combinations that I liked. I added a few labels and embellishments to those premade pages to make putting them together easy and quick during December.

One way to make documenting everyday in December a little easier is to prep layouts that you know are going to happen by thinking through your traditions. Peppermint mochas are one of my favorite things about the holiday season, so I made a specific layout dedicated to getting a peppermint mocha at Starbucks on December 1st. I did this last year and it’s a tradition I want to keep. I like reusing my holiday Starbucks cup, so I knew what colors I wanted use on the page. I thought the December journaling tag and the checkered green tag would match perfectly with my cup, so I put those into the page. The “deck the halls” wood veneer helped capture the excitement of starting the month with a peppermint mocha. Lastly, I knew I wanted to get one on December 1st, so I stamped a label with the date. Now, on December 1st, I just need to get a peppermint mocha, take a photo, and print it out! Prepping layouts for things you know you do every year makes daily documentation a little easier!

Lastly, I have one more tip for prepping your products. I love using labels and have one on every page I make. Sometimes I even have two! I knew I would be using a lot of the labels from the Document December kit, so I cut them all out now so they are ready to be stamped and added to layouts. Little things like that can slow down the scrapbooking process and I never have extra time in December.

After last years failure, I’m really excited to give documenting every day in December another chance. I’d love to know if you have any tips for a successful December album. Are you all prepped for this December? Let me know what worked for you in the comments!

One Product, Three Ways: Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamps

This month we are spotlighting our new Stanley Jr stamps (outline and solid) in our “One Product, Three Ways series!” Today we have Andrea, Melissa, and Tessa sharing how they each used these stamps to create repeating patterns on different projects – let’s take a look:

Supplies | November 2017 Kit, Family Fun Cutouts, Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp – Outline, Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp – Solid

Andrea Gray | If I could only use one alpha stamp for the rest of my life it would be Stanley (solid + outline, of course)! But isn’t everything cuter when it’s smaller? Stanley Jr. stamps are perfect for small pocket cards so today I am sharing how I made a pattern with them to create this pocket page!

Creating patterns with stamps is super fun! I used the solid alpha to create a repeating pattern and then used the outline to call attention to just one section of the pattern that I wanted to be the focus! GO PACK GO!

Supplies | Wood Veneer Snowflakes, Family Fun 6″ x 6″ Paper StackStanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp – Outline, Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp – Solid

Melissa Mann | The new Stanley Jr. alphabet sets are perfect for card making, Project Life, and mini albums! They are smaller in size and lend well to the smaller sized projects! I used both sets on my card; stamping one line with the outline set and the next line with the solid set across my card front. I love how they look stamped onto vellum, allowing a smidge of the wood grain pattern paper behind to show through!

Supplies | November 2017 kit, Christmas Puffy Hearts, Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp – Outline, Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp – Solid, and Document December Kit paper

Tessa Buys | I adore the Stanley Jr. outline and solid stamps! They were perfect for creating my own patterned paper for this layout. I chose five words that best described the story I was telling and stamped them over and over again across most of an 8.5 x 11 inch page. I filled some words in using the solid stamps and red and green inks. Others I filled with a pen and doodled stripes. If you’re looking for a way to make your next layout extra custom, these stamps are the best!

We can’t wait to see how you use our new Stanley Jr stamps (outline and solid)! Be sure to post your project, using these fun new stamps on Instagram, using the hashtag #EllesStudio!

Christmas Morning with November Guest Designer Missy Whidden

We are so excited to welcome our November guest designer, Missy Whidden! Missy’s colorful, layered mixed-media style always catches our eye, and we can’t wait to see what she has in store for us this month, using our November 2017 Kit and add-ons. Today she’s sharing a beautiful new layout, full of color and texture. Let’s take a look!

Hello, friends! It’s Missy Whidden here, and I’m super excited to be the November guest designer here at Elle’s Studio. Today I am sharing a Christmas layout I created using the November 2017 Kit along with a bit of the Family Fun collection. The November Kit is full of red and green holiday goodies, so I decided to scrap a cute picture of my daughter jumping on her trampoline on Christmas morning.

Supplies | November 2017 Kit, November 2017 Digital Cut File, Everyday Banner StickersWood Veneer Snowflakes, Christmas Puffy Heart Stickers, Stanley Alphabet Stamp – Outline, Family Fun 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack

I used a white cardstock background and cut some of the snowflakes in white from this month’s Digital Cut Files, to create a tone-on-tone look, lightly spritzing them with gold ink spray. I also used the three large wood veneer snowflakes from the kit, which I heat embossed with gold embossing powder to make them sparkly. I used gold, green and aqua watercolor sprays on the background to create a fun and artsy backdrop for all of the snowflakes.

Here you can see all the gold shine. The wood veneer embossed beautifully, and I love how they turned out. I created a cluster down here under the photo using some die cuts from the November Kit as well as the Everyday Banner Stickers. I also used a few of the Christmas Puffy Heart Stickers in a few places. To add some finishing touches, I machine stitched with metallic gold thread around the page.

Check out the dimension from the die cuts! It’s fun to not glue down every inch of them so the edges will curl up off the page. Aren’t those puffy hearts so adorable? I wanted to use them all, but I also wanted to save some for future projects! I wrote my journaling with a gold pen. I think it added the perfect touch.

There are a lot of beautiful journaling tags in the kit, and I used a few of them here behind my photo as layers. They give hints of all of the colors used on the layout and make the photo stand out from the background. I also added some tissue paper and adhesive foam from my stash for extra dimension and texture. I added this fun star die cut from the November Kit and topped it with a white puffy heart sticker and some stitching. I love that there are touches of aqua here and there to add some extra fun colors to the traditional red and green.

I decided to create a long vertical title along the left side of the page using the Stanley Alphabet Outline Stamps. They are amazing, and since these are open letters, I was able to watercolor inside of them. I used a small brush and some aqua and blue watercolor to fill in the bottoms and create some shading. I fussy cut those circles from a 3″ x 4″ journaling tag in the November Kit and stitched them down on the left side.

I hope this gives you some fun ideas to try using the November Kit and add-ons! There are so many fun products to work with, and it really got me into the holiday crafting spirit! Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll see you again next week!
