Going Outside of the Theme with Tracey Fox

Even though the holidays are over, there are still plenty of memories to document. But what do you do when you are short on supplies? Pick up our versatile January Kit and add-ons! That’s what Tracey Fox used to create the Christmas layout that she’s sharing with us today, in quite a successful way! Let’s see what she created.

It’s Tracey Fox here! I’m so excited to share my love for the January 2018 Kit and extras with you in my first blog post as a new member of the Elle’s Studio design team! To demonstrate how versatile the January releases are, I pulled out some red, blue-green, and gray items from the kit, extras, and the Family Fun collection to create a 12″ x 12″ Christmas page.

Supplies | January Kit, Love You Die Cuts, Wood Veneer Love Tags, Hugs & Kisses Puffy Stickers, XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, Dated Stamp, Family Fun Bits and Pieces, Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection

I just love how the colors in these products match the colors in the group selfie I took with my husband’s side of the family on Christmas Day last year. It was super fun to go through and pull out the tags from the January Kit and papers from the XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack in the same festive colors my family members were wearing. Even more perfect was the “This is Us” tag from the January Kit! I paired that tag with another tag from the kit that had lines for my journaling.

I also loved playing with lots of hearts for this family-themed layout, and there is no shortage of hearts in the January kit and extras! I used a pen to add some dashed lines around the die cut hearts from the Love You Die Cuts and the heart on the gray tag from the kit to add an extra touch of embellishment.

Finally, three of the Wood Veneer Love Tags strung with some swirly baker’s twine added the perfect finishing touch to the page. I love how the diagonal lines on one of the wood tags mimics the pattern of lines in the background paper I chose from the Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection.

Do you ever use non-themed supplies to document your holiday photos? I find that kits from Elle’s Studio always contain enough great colors that you can easily pull out the right products for absolutely any occasion. I challenge you to think outside the box (and the obvious themes for the month) when you use your kit and extras. Thanks for letting me share with you today!

Hearts and Arrows with Laura Wonsik

Stamps are a great product to have on hand to spark your creativity, and today we’re blown away by how design team member Laura Wonsik has used the newest stamp in our shop: the XOXO Stamp. You will love her new layout, and she’s shown you how to re-create her page below! Let’s take a look.

Hello! This is Laura Wonsik and I am so thrilled to be doing my first blog post as a design team member! I made a 12″ x 12″ layout focusing on the XOXO Stamp and was amazed by how versatile it is—I used it three different ways on this layout.

Supplies | Love You Die CutsPink Cardstock Alphabet Stickers, Enamel DotsXOXO StampXOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack

I started by playing around with the tally marks pattern included in the XOXO Stamp. One of the ways to think outside of the box with stamps is to consider how they can be used with each other as well as how you can use a part instead of the whole. For example, I stamped the marks pattern criss-crossed over itself to create a new pattern!

I practiced on paper and then decided to stamp over the punched-out die cut hearts from the 3″ x 4″ tag featured in the Love You Die Cuts.

Another option for this technique would be to stamp the pattern criss crossed on a piece of paper and then punch a shape out instead of having the shape punched out first.

Once my hearts were complete, I stamped the arrow from the XOXO Stamp pointing in random directions and adhered the hearts with pop dots over the arrows in random order.

Next, I randomly placed enamel dots around the hearts and arrows. Then I stamped the “Love You” words from the XOXO Stamp on smooth, white paper and fussy-cut it out as the title. I added the Pink Cardstock Alphabet Stickers so that it would say “We love you so,” since it’s a photo of my daughter with her grandparents.

The last thing I did was create a border around the grid of photos and paper. Like I said before, one way to stretch your supplies is to think about how you can use a part instead of a whole. I stamped with only the thin tally marks section of the XOXO Stamp pattern repeatedly to create a border, using a Post-It for the masking technique.

I hope you learned some new ways to use these awesome products and try them on your own. Happy crafting!

Keeping Track of 2018 with Guest Adrienne Alvis

Today we welcome back our guest designer for the month of January, Adrienne Alvis! We know that you will love the home decor project that she’s sharing with us today—it’s the perfect way to kick off a new year and keep track of 2018, and all that you have planned for it! Let’s take a look.

I’m back again with a little home office decor project that I created using the 2018 Calendars in the shop! I had a small calendar clipboard stand leftover from last year so instead of throwing it out, I decided to reuse it and make my own pages for it!

Supplies | 2018 Calendars, January 2018 Kit, Love You Die CutsStar Chipboard StickersHugs and Kisses Puffy StickersEnamel DotsXOXO StampXOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack

I started by gathering my supplies and cutting down several of the patterned papers from the XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack to 4″ x 6″ so they would fit nicely on the clipboard, which is about 5″ x 7″ in size. I also used some of the 4″ x 6″ journaling tags from the January 2018 Kit as background pieces, too.

I layered the 3″ x 4″ 2018 Calendars on top of several of the 4″ x 6″ patterned paper pieces and used my sewing machine to sew them down for a more “homespun” feel.

Next, I embellished the monthly cards using the Hugs and Kisses Puffy Stickers, several of the Love You Die Cuts, and a few of the colorful Enamel Dots. My biggest concern was adding too many embellishments and it being too bulky to clip down, but the die cuts were perfect for adding flair without the bulk, so were the stamps from the XOXO Stamp.

I used some black ink and several of the stamps to embellish many of the background patterned papers and even directly onto the calendar cards. I also used a few of the leftover paper strips from the XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack that I cut down to create a nice layered look.

I really love how everything came together so easily and how the different embellishments and papers coordinated to make a year-round home decor piece! I have this calendar displayed in my home office—I really love how easy it was to make, and how such a simple piece added a big statement in my space!

I was born and raised in Southern Illinois and grew up around my family’s farm. My mother was always sewing, making crafts, and taking craft classes, but I didn’t discover my crafty side until after I had my youngest son, almost 11 years ago. I started creating traditional layouts, but soon found a love for making cards, mini albums, home decor projects, and pocket page albums. I am currently designing for Pinkfresh Studio and have been on many other design teams over the past few years. I’ve been married to my husband for almost 12 years now, and we have three beautiful and spirited kiddos, Garrison (15), Jubal (10), and Avery (8). Of course, my children are my main source of scrappy subject matter and I love how documenting their every move and milestone helps satisfy my creative urges. Other than paper-crafting, I have a full-time job as a LuLaRoe fashion consultant and in my spare time I like to read, run, watch movies in bed, listen to music, travel, and work on DIY home projects. You can find more of my projects on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and my blog, Paper Fab.

Be sure to find more of Adrienne’s work at the links above, and stay tuned for another project from her using the January kit and add-ons next week!

January Kit Greetings with Wendy Antenucci

Our filler and journaling tags featured in each month’s exclusive kit are so versatile for all of your paper crafting projects, and today we have design team member Wendy Antenucci with us to share how she layered up her tags to create beautiful greeting cards! Let’s take a look.

How about a few cards today? It’s Wendy here today to share some quick and easy cards that I created with the January kit and add-ons. I love the 3″ x 4″ tags from the kit and use them in all of my creative projects—layouts, pocket pages, cards, anything! Since I have such a love for these tags, it makes sense (to me) to start off a smaller project, such as a card, by choosing fun tags from the January 2018 Kit for the greeting, to set the colors, and add some pattern.

Supplies | January 2018 Kit, Star Chipboard StickersWood Veneer Love Tags, Hugs and Kisses Puffy StickersFamily Fun 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack

The first tag that I used, “kind heart,” was chosen because I loved the simplicity of the tag. Because of the simple design, I chose a red chevron pattern from the Family Fun 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack to mat my tag onto. I also like to use doilies often as they add a little touch of frill (and I really like them!)

To add some fun to my card I chose to tie some twine and a Wood Veneer Love Tag onto my card. Tip: To keep the twine from moving all over I taped it down on the back of the tag. I also didn’t want the tag moving so I added a foam square under the tag to hold it in place.

My next card was created by layering two tags from the January Kit, one 3″ x 4″ and one 4″ x 6″, which I cut down to fit my card. I added a few die cuts from the kit to further dress up the card, but the finishing touches were the Star Chipboard Stickers and the Hugs and Kisses Puffy Stickers. Did you notice that all of the elements lead your eyes around the card and the saying?

Who do you need to send a card to today? The January 2018 Kit makes this a simple and easy task, have fun!

Documenting Love in Pockets with Andrea Gray

Hello there sweet friends! Today I am sharing some pocket page inspiration using the January Kit + extras! There are so many fun little products in the shop this month that I decided to use the page protector with twelve 2″ x 2″ squares, so I could show them all off!

Supplies | January 2018 Kit, Love You Die Cuts, Black Cardstock Alphabet StickersHugs and Kisses Puffy Stickers, Wood Veneer Love Tags, Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, From Sketch to Finish Vol. 3 StampXOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack

Since this month’s kit is all about love, the theme of this page is my love for I Love Lucy. I’ve had several little random photos from the show that I wanted to use and this kit was PERFECT for documenting them! The tiny pockets hold the lovely banners, arrows, hearts and die cuts from this month’s new product selection in such a perfect way!

Simple, white cardstock created the perfect clean backdrop to make black and white photos from the show and colorful embellishment pop against the page, like the fun, patterned banners and die cuts from the January 2018 Kit.

The “My #1” die cut from the Love You Die Cuts was perfect for this spread, and I paired it with a simple journaling tag from the same pack, which I stamped with “so much goodness” from the From Sketch to Finish Vol. 3 Stamp.

This small bit of blue pattern in the bottom corner was one piece of a visual triangle of blue color on my spread. I simply topped it with a Hand Drawn Acrylic Heart and the “meant to be” die cut from the January 2018 Kit.

On the right side of the spread I used 3″ x 4″ journaling tags from the kit as the base for each pocket, as well as my favorite Lucille Ball quote, completed with the “love” puffy sticker from the Hugs and Kisses Puffy Stickers.

I had so much fun working with all of the beautiful colors and embellishments new to the shop this month to make this layout!

Paper Stack Love with Wendy Antenucci

We are so excited that there is a new 6″ x 6″ paper stack in the shop this month—one that coordinates directly with our January 2018 kit and extras. Today, Wendy Antenucci is joining us to share how layered the fun and colorful 6″ squares with the rest of the new product this month to create a beautiful page about the people she loves most. Let’s see what she made!

It’s Wendy here today for my first blog post at Elle’s Studio; I am so excited for the chance to share with all of you! I love 6″ x 6″ paper pads as they lend themselves to layering, they are perfect for cards, just the right size for pockets pages, and so much more! I really love that they give me the freedom to play without cutting into a full piece of paper.

Supplies | January Kit, Love You Die Cuts, White Cardstock Alphabet Stickers, Letter and Number Stickers — Black, Hugs and Kisses Puffy Stickers, You Are Loved Wood Veneer, Enamel DotsXOXO Stamp, XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack

Today I had fun layering with the XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack! I began my page by picking three 6″ x 6″ squares that I liked together and laid them on my paper. After choosing a photo that would work with the colors and design in my head I trimmed a few of the pieces down so that all the colors and patterns could be seen.

I begin all of my pages with a “photo block”; in this case it would be my photo and the 6″ x 6″ papers that I layered together. To anchor my photo block I again turned to my XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack for two pieces that would anchor and not overwhelm my otherwise colorful page, and the gray heart “XO” pattern was perfect to add that neutral  element to the background. Using two 6″ x 6″ pages together made it look like a 6″ x 12″ strip of patterned paper.

A few fun pieces from the Love You Die Cuts were the quick and easy finishing touches to my page. Once my page is done, I then like to add in my journaling, usually a few lines with just my handwriting to tell the story. I love the XOXO Stamp, as it has tiny sayings and graphics that add to the details of the page, but don’t take away from the overall design as seen with this phrase and arrow.

Thanks for joining me today! Be sure to pick up the XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack to create a beautiful foundation for your next layout!

One Day at a Time in Pockets with Nathalie Leonelli

Are you still wrapping up your weekly or monthly pocket pages from 2017? The January kit and add-ons in the shop are the perfect way to fill in those gaps, like Nathalie Leonelli is doing here today with a new pocket page spread! Let’s take a look at how she has filled her pockets!

Hi there! This is Nathalie and I am thrilled to be hosting my first blog post on the Elle’s Studio blog! My latest project is a weekly spread in my 6″ x 12″ album created with the January kit + extras.

Supplies | January Kit, January LabelsLove You Die Cuts, Hugs and Kisses Puffy Stickers, Letter and Number Stickers — White, Black Cardstock Alphabet Stickers, Star Chipboard StickersDated Stamp, Days of the Week Stamp, Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp — OutlineTime StampXOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack

I absolutely fell in love with the colors in this kit, especially the purple and lavender accents which I paired on my pages with gray tags and finished with touches of red and turquoise.

For the title card, I used a patterned paper from the brand new XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, a label from the Love You Die Cuts stamped with the Dated Stamp (already a favorite of mine) and topped with a star from the new Star Chipboard Stickers.

I also used those awesome stars on my “Currently” card. A “currently” list is a great remedy if you are short on photos!

See those Black Cardstock Alphabet Stickers? They come in several other colors and I LOVE their quality and their size. I had fun mixing them with the Days of the Week and the Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp.

Other favorites in this month’s release are the Hugs and Kisses Puffy Stickers and the January Labels. If, like me, you are using a manual typewriter, type your text on them before cutting the label off the sheet!

Don’t forget to use foam dots to add dimension and maybe pull out some colorful thread to add texture with some stitching.

I could not be happier with the look of this spread and I am excited to share more with you every month!

One Product, Three Ways: Wood Veneer Love Tags

What an exciting reveal it has been! We’ve introduced so many new products to help you complete your papercrafting projects and tell your story. It was hard to choose, but we selected the Wood Veneer Love Tags for our One Product, Three Ways post this month, and Heather Leopard, Candace Perkins and Amanda-jayne Baldwin are here to show us how they inspired them to create! Let’s take a look.

Heather | I decided to use the wood tags like confetti to fill one of the 4″x4″ inserts in my pocket page. While I like using the tags in their natural state, I decided they needed a punch of color. You could choose to paint them entirely. If so, most paint and mist mediums will do the trick. However, if you want to color specific areas, I suggest you avoid using a really wet liquid as that may cause the color to bleed in the grain of the wood. I chose to color the little details of the tags. To accomplish this, I used my watercolor color pencils, without water. I used very sharp pencils and simply colored the sections in that I wanted colored. I used the same technique to color the wood phrase at the bottom of the page.

Candace | Hello Elle’s Studio friends! How fun are the wood veneer tags this month?  I love when I see a product and it inspires project ideas right away, and that is what happened when I saw the Wood Veneer Love Tags this month.  I knew I wanted to create a fun tag layout about daily adventures with my little sidekick.  I started with a full 6″ x 8″ photo of my little guy and me on the left side.  I kept my journaling and embellishments to the right side of the spread.  For my short journaling, I used the journal spots from the Love You Die Cuts.  Now for the fun: embellishments!  I tucked coordinating hearts around my journaling and stitched them down for added interest and texture.  The main attraction of the whole spread, the tags, were my final touch! I added three tags across the spread, tied with embroidery floss and tucked around my journaling spots. I love the final look of the spread with it’s fun, whimsical feel, but most of all I love this moment and memory captured.

The January Kit lends itself beautifully to Valentine’s creating, so here’s the card my Valentine will be receiving—I hope he likes it! I just love the natural look of wood veneer, and the warmth it adds to any project. My card is a simple 4″ x 8″ design, and features patterned paper from the XOXO 6 x 6 Paper Stack, Love You Die Cuts, Enamel Dots, & Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, but it’s those wooden tags that really impress!

I’ve arranged the tags in a grid layout, and embellished them with those sweet tiny bows, created from the patterns in the XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack. Apart from adding dimension & interest, the bows also ‘cover up’ the tops of the wood tags. This means you can mix & match the shapes and sentiments, while keeping a ‘clean’ look. To add texture, the pretty heart paper beneath the tags is stitched into place, as well as the “XOXO” die cut from the Love You Die Cuts.

Wow! What inspiring projects from our talented team members! Be sure to check out the fabulous Wood Veneer Love Tags in our shop while supplies last!

Die Cut Love with January Guest Adrienne Alvis

We are so excited to welcome our first guest for 2018, the talented Adrienne Alvis to the Elle’s Studio blog! We always love her use of color, along with the perfect mix of embellishment. Let’s see what she created with the January Kit + extras to share with us today!

Hello! My name is Adrienne Alvis. I’m so excited to be a guest here at Elle’s Studio and share my work with all of you! I was really inspired by the awesome sentiment die cut from the Love You Die Cuts and created my entire page design around it!

Supplies | January Kit, Love You Die Cuts, Hugs and Kisses Puffy Stickers, Star Chipboard Stickers, Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts, XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack

I used a piece of kraft cardstock for my background paper and placed the “I Love You More Than All The Stars In The Sky” die cut next to the photo of my husband and I, which I layered on top of the striped patterned paper from the XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack.

Next, I visually balanced out my design by using two more patterned paper pieces from the XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack and cut them to fill in the white space under my photo and the sentiment die cut piece. Since I love to layer and create embellishment clusters, I utilized the space on the patterned paper pieces under my photo for just that.

I placed several die cut and Hand Drawn Acrylic Hearts and tags from the Love You Die Cut on the patterned paper squares and I also used some of the leftover pieces from the striped patterned paper that I layered under my photo to create a pocket to house my journaling card, which I sewed onto the page.

I simply placed the piece of patterned paper onto my page and used my sewing machine to stitch around three sides of it to create a little pocket. This is a great way to add texture to your page while hiding some of your private journaling!

I also included several of the Star Chipboard and Hugs and Kisses Puffy Stickers to add some dimension and color pop to my design. I love how the softer colors from the XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack look paired with the pops of black and white!
