Sketch Inspired with Tessa Buys

We love our newest class, From Sketch to Finish Volume 3 so much that we asked our design team to use it to inspire their next project. Tessa Buys chose a grid-design sketch—one of thirty offered in the class— to inspire her fun and colorful layout, which we know you will love! Let’s take a look.
I love a great take on a grid, and that’s what drew me to this particular sketch.

Supplies | From Sketch to Finish Vol. 3 Class with Stamp, Family Fun Double-Sided Journaling TagsFamily Fun Bits and PiecesFamily Fun Acrylic, Family Fun Puffy Stickers, Family Fun 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection
To make things extra colorful—which is easy to do with the Family Fun collection, I decided to use one of the four squares for my photo and to create patterned paper/embellishment blocks with the other three. I also left a vertical border on the left of my page. Otherwise, I stayed pretty true to the sketch!

The exclusive class stamp set made for a great title and awesome accents here and there. Here’s a helpful tip: To create that big arch, trace a large bowl or round platter from your kitchen. Old school, but really effective. If you haven’t purchased this class yet, I highly recommend it to jump-start your creative process!

Our newest class, From Sketch to Finish Volume 3 is available with or without the 6″ x 8″ exclusive stamp, but only while supplies last. Have you been inspired by our newest class? We’d love to see what you’ve created! Please share your layout on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio so that we can see your work, have a chance to be featured here on our blog and win a $10 gift certificate to the shop!

December in Pockets with Laura Hager

It’s that time of year again! Not only are we making memories with the people we love and decking the halls, but we’re documenting those memories, too! Today, Laura Hager is with us to share how she’s filling in the blanks from last year, using the November Kit and Document December supplies!

Hi there! It’s Laura here to show you a pocket page layout I made with the November Kit! What I love about these monthly kits is that they are so versatile. You can make a really colorful layout or you can pick a color scheme to highlight. For this layout, I choose to pick a color scheme. I used gray and red from the November Kit with pops of green!

Supplies | November 2017 Kit, Document December Kit, Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Christmas Puffy Heart StickersDocument December Stamp
Like every layout, I started by picking out which photos I wanted to document. Then, I looked through all the tags in the November Kit to find my favorites. I also used one 4″ x 6″ tag from the Document December Kit. I wanted this layout to feel warm and cozy, so the gray and red tags were perfect.

In my weekly album, I always have the dates for the week in the first pocket. I love the gray buffalo check tag, so I knew I wanted that to be the title for the week. I added a die cut label from the kit and stamped the dates and “share joy” from the Document December Stamp. The left side of the layout needed a little green, so I added the Green Puffy Alphabet Stickers to spell out December. That little bit of green really tied the whole page together.

I had so much fun documenting all of the peppermint mochas I drank in December, so I loved including the Starbucks cup photo in this layout. Adding little labels to photos with the date is one of my favorite ways of documenting the details of the photos. I used the labels from the Document December Kit to mark the date on each photo in this layout.

This fun 4″ x 6″ tag from the Document December Kit was such a cute way to record some of my favorite things during that time. I used a typewriter to fill in the boxes and then added “fa la la” from the Document December Stamp for a little extra detail. I accidentally messed up in one of the boxes, so I used a die cut from the November Kit to cover the mistake. It fit perfectly! I love when mistakes create even better projects.
I love documenting November and December. It’s such a fun time of year, and the November Kit is perfect for documenting those warm and cozy memories!

We can’t wait to see how you’re documenting your December memories using Elle’s Studio products! Be sure to share your project on Instagram using the hashtag #EllesStudio for a chance to be featured here on the blog and win a gift certificate to the shop!

Tips on Review-Based Documenting with Jill Sprott

As we approach the end of 2017, we start looking back on a year of favorite moments, difficult times or things we’ve learned. Today, Jill Sprott is giving us a few tips on how to make the most of that 12″ x 12″ space to fully document our year or in her case, month of December, and we couldn’t love it more. Let’s take a look.
Fitting twenty photos on a page while still leaving room for lots of journaling can be a daunting task, but it is possible. It just takes a little bit of planning — and it also doesn’t hurt to have some help from the Elle’s Studio November Kit and extras.

Supplies | November 2017 Kit, Giving Thanks Puffy Stickers, Red Puffy Alphabet Stickers, Everyday Banner Stickers, Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp — OutlineFamily Fun 12 x 12 Paper Collection
When including multiple photos and plentiful journaling on a page, a white or simply patterned background (like the Family Fun grid pattern from the 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection here) keeps the page feeling open and allows for the addition of color without too much visual competition.
Because using accents on such a page can be tricky, it helps to take advantage of existing “openings” in the design. I worked stickers, like the “happy” Everyday Banner Sticker, Giving Thanks Puffy Stickers, and strips from journaling tags into the spaces between the rows of photos.

Since this is a month-in-review page, the title is simple and direct, but it also stands out, due to the Red Puffy Alphabet Stickers and the placement of the title according to the rule of thirds.

The final step was to include a list of the month’s highlights, in the order that they appear in the photos. Behind each item in the list, I lightly stamped an accompanying photo number using the Stanley Jr. Outline Alphabet Stamp.

This go-to grid approach serves me well when making review-based layouts. The design approach is fairly basic, but the inclusion of Elle’s Studio goodies helps to kick it up a notch or two.

A Story of Home with Jamie Leija

Our November kit is all about giving thanks and celebrating, and when combined with our Family Fun collection, the two pair to create a perfect layout about the people or things we love. Today Jamie Leija is with us to share a layout she made about the story of her new home! Let’s see what she created.
Hiya! It’s Jamie and lately I’ve been dying to make a layout. It seems like all I’ve been making is pocket pages. Not that I don’t love them, I just wanted to get back to my roots and make a proper layout.

Supplies | November 2017 KitGiving Thanks Puffy StickersChristmas Puffy Heart StickersPure Joy StampStanley Alphabet Stamp – SolidStanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp – SolidFamily Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection
This layout was created using the November Kit and extras along with the Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection. I started by adding a bit of mist to the background paper, first by adding drips then by adding swipes with a paint brush. Next, I figured out where I wanted my photos to go and then worked outward from there.

I stamped my title directly onto the background paper using the Stanley Alphabet Solid Stamp and Stanley Jr. Alphabet Solid Stamp with dark green ink. Then I added in some embellishments—labels, die cuts, stamped and punched images and a few puffy hearts.

I hand cut the heart below my photos from one of the 3″ x 4″ journaling tags included in the November Kit. I loved those colorful stripes! I mirrored them on the left of the side of the page using journaling tags and patterned paper. You’ll notice I put the colors in the same order as they are on the striped heart.

To finish the page, I journaled around the heart, added a label, a die cut and a puffy heart. It felt so good to make this layout and I love how it came out.

A Rainbow of Color with Guest Missy Whidden

We have loved having the amazingly talented guest designer, Missy Whidden, with us for the month of November. Her use of color and mixed-media mediums on her layouts always blow us away! We think that she has saved the best project for last, sharing a brand new layout with us today. Let’s take a look!
Hey, friends! It’s Missy here again, and I have another layout to share today as the November guest designer. I used bits and pieces from the November Kit, as well as the Family Fun Collection. I love this collection because it has a rainbow variety of colors! I decided to use them all here and create a watercolor background to match. I cut triangle strips on my Silhouette Cameo first from the colorful stripes in the #6 paper from the Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection and arranged them on white cardstock. I used watercolors and some plastic packaging to create those fun and messy splotches on the background. Once I arranged all the strips, I stitched through them using my sewing machine and coordinating thread colors. I chose to scrap a silly photo of me, my mom and my sister, and the embellishments were perfect for it.

Supplies | November 2017 Kit, Everyday Banner Stickers, Puffy Heart Stickers, Family Fun Word Labels, Family Fun Bits and Pieces, Family Fun Puffy Stickers, Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection, Stanley Alphabet Stamp – Outline
One of my favorite things about Elle’s Studio patterned papers is there are always bright and bold solids mixed with fun prints. These colors are so rich, and were just begging to be designed in rainbow fashion. Here you can see all the texture from the stitching and thread.

I just adore the Stanley Alphabet Stamp, so I used it to stamp part of my title below the photo. I used a lot of die cuts here from the Family Fun Bits and Pieces, as well as the November Kit. I tried to create a rainbow effect with these die cuts as well. How cute are those little Puffy Heart Stickers?

At the top of the layout, I added the word “fun” from the Family Fun Puffy Stickers and a circle “fun stuff” die cut, included in the November Kit. I love that so many of the embellishments in the kit and Family Fun Collection are for everyday photos and not event specific. Everything is so versatile, and I love that!

Here’s one last close-up showing the dimension on the layout. Puffy stickers automatically give you some nice depth. I raised my photo up with some adhesive foam, so even more dimension is created by layering pieces in and around it.

I hope this inspires you in some way. It was so much fun to make, and I had a wonderful time here this month! Thank you for having me!
Hey, friends!  I’m Missy Whidden from sunny Florida, USA.  I’ve been married to my college sweetheart for almost 18 years, and we have two beautiful daughters.  Reese is 11 and Paige is 8.5.  They are both autistic and nonverbal which means life in our house is never dull or boring.  They are both precious and we just love them to pieces.  I began scrapbooking over ten years ago when my mother-in-law asked me to help her put a baby book together of my husband’s photos.  I was instantly intrigued by the deco scissors, paper and stickers.  I began scrapping our travel photos and just fell in love with the creative process.  I’ve been scrapping photos of our kids and family ever since, and I just love it.  I love using mixed media on my layouts, especially watercolors, ink sprays and paints.  I also love using my Silhouette Cameo and sewing machine on my pages.  I’m honored to be on several design teams, and it has been the greatest experience.  When I’m not at my craft desk, you can find me at the gym teaching fitness classes or blowing off stress in the weight room.  I also love reading, watching Netflix and eating delicious food.  I’m so happy to the Guest Designer here this month.  Thank you so much for having me!
We have loved seeing Missy work her magic with Elle’s Studio product. If you’ve been inspired by Missy, please be sure to see more of her creations at her bloggallery, Instagram and YouTube feeds! Thank you so much for creating your beautiful layouts, Missy!

Documenting Gratitude with Neela Nalam

You may think that you’ve exhausted scrapbooking about your favorite people, places or things, but today Neela Nalam is here to inspire us to take a new approach on documenting the things that we are most thankful for, by using the November extras and Family Fun collection! Let’s take a look.
November is the month to give thanks and appreciate the things in life that you take for granted. I have documented the fact that we go on our walks to the ocean often before, but it is never enough. I used the Giving Thanks Puffy Stickers as the inspiration to create this layout, which uses a large photo. I love creating layouts like these and often use this technique.

Supplies | November LabelsGiving Thanks Puffy Stickers, Family Fun Word Labels, Family Fun Puffy StickersFamily Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection, Days of the Week Stamp, Dated Stamp
Before printing my large photo, I typed my journaling onto it in my photo editing software. It is great to use white space for this, so be sure to look for photos with with plenty of white space for this technique. I used the “giving thanks” phrase as the title which I placed directly on the photo above my journaling. I also placed the “so blessed” phrase from the Family Fun Puffy Stickers under the title. Below the journaling I placed the “feeling so very blessed” tag from the Family Fun Word Labels and the circle puffy sticker included in the Giving Thanks Puffy Stickers.

At the bottom of the layout, I used a November Label, Dated Stamp and the Days of the Week Stamp to add the date. I love the bold statement this makes and how the date fits perfectly into this label. I also added strips of paper from the Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection at the top and bottom of the photo and also framed the layout with the colorful chevron paper from the same collection.

I then finished the layout by adding stars and plus sign puffy stickers from the Family Fun and Giving Thanks Puffy Stickers. I hope you enjoyed this layout! What are you thankful for and are you documenting it? The November extras and the Family Fun Collection are the perfect products to do this on your next layout!

So thankful for you!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! This holiday is one of my favorites – it’s a special day to gather with loved ones, make and eat tons of delicious traditional recipes, share memories, and reflect on what and who we are most thankful for!

We wanted to take a moment during this special day to let you know that we are so thankful for each and every one of you! Your support means so much to us and is what makes it possible for us to continue to design and make new products, and we are so grateful for that!

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!
xo, Elle

Inspired by a Sketch with Alissa Fast

Hello! It’s Alissa here today, with a page I created inspired by one of the amazing sketches included in the latest From Sketch to Finish Vol. 3 class, using the exclusive class stamp and the Family Fun collection! I always love a good sketch and these are truly amazing and perfect for all of your scrapping needs. They are even designed with the stamp set in mind. So, if you want to get more ideas on where to use stamp sets on your pages, this class, which includes 30 sketches, is a must!

Supplies | From Sketch to Finish Vol. 3 Class with StampFamily Fun Puffy StickersFamily Fun Bits and PiecesFamily Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection
I pretty much stuck to the sketch, with a few minor changes and additional stamping.

I added a few die cuts from the Family Fun Bits and Pieces and even stamped on one of the cute labels. It’s fun to stamp right on your background page, but I know it can be scary. That’s why these sketches are truly awesome! Just follow the sketch and you can’t go wrong.

Layer up those stamps or tuck them under your other page elements. I created the large photo mat and placed it before adhering it to the background so that I could get the stamped images peeking out from the edges.

Now, if you’re a sketch scrapper or you’re dying to try out stamping on your pages, go sign up for the class now! You’ll love the results!
Have a great day!
