Keeping it Simple with Jen Chapin

Less can certainly be MORE, and today Jen Chapin is sharing how she’s keeping her memory-keeping simple with the Family Fun collection! Let’s see what she created.
Hi everyone! Today on the blog I’m sharing an 8-1/2″ x 11″ layout I created with the Family Fun collection. I challenged myself to keep this layout very simple!

Supplies | Family Fun Bits and PiecesFamily Fun Puffy Stickers, Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection
When I’m creating a layout, it’s second nature for me to layer up tons of tags and papers. For this page, I used a circle-shaped photo that I cut by hand out of a 4″ x 6″ print. I used two sheets of patterned paper from the Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection to create my background. The black and white spotted paper is my favorite!

I added a title using the “good times” die cut from the Family Fun Bits and Pieces, and embellished with hearts from the Family Fun Puffy Stickers. I kept my journaling simple by using typed strips, which I adhered on the page underneath the photo.

Always remember that it is okay to keep things simple when you want to get your memories documented! Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today! Hope you are having a great week so far!

Family Fun + the September Exclusive Kit with Daniela!

The Family Fun collection includes so many beautiful colors and themes that are perfect for documenting anything from the everyday to special events. Our September exclusive kit is just as useful for any page, and with colors that coordinate with the Family Fun collection, they’re a match made in heaven, which Daniela Dobson is illustrating today on a new layout. Let’s take a look!
Welcome to the Elle’s Studio blog post today. It’s Daniela here highlighting the awesome September Kit and extras. For my project today I created a layout full of color and texture!

I love to layer! I started with several strips of patterned paper from the  Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection and the Family Fun 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack. My photo is layered over two different journaling cards— the orange one is from the September 2017 Kit and the blue one from the Family Fun Double-Sided Journaling Tags. Sometimes when I can slide a whole journaling tag or a sticker under something, I cut it and tuck it under. The other half I can use somewhere else on a layout or at another time.

I can’t go without stamping on a layout, and the Title Builder Alphabet Stamp is perfect for adding words that you need in a small space. To give the background some texture, I added modeling paste with a triangle stencil to the top and bottom of the layout and scattered drops of mist ink and Autumn Sequins. I repeated a few more triangle shapes from the Family Fun Bits and Pieces.

Doesn’t the the September 2017 Kit coordinate perfectly with the Family Fun collection? We know you will love using these journaling tags, die-cuts, embellishments and stamps on your next project. Be sure to pick up these fun products in the shop today!

August Challenge Day Picks!

Although we’re taking a hiatus from Challenge Day for the remainder of 2017 to get ready for new and exciting things coming to Elle’s Studio, we wanted to highlight the winners of the August Challenge Day here on our blog! Let’s see how the challenges inspired them to get their memories documented!

Embellish your wood veneer | Sandi Pressley
Not only did we love how Sandi finally used a wood veneer 3″ x 4″ tag that she had been hoarding (we’ve all done that, right?), but we love how she backed it with cardstock and embellished it with stickers!

Number it up | Sharmon Petersen
Documenting scores in a game is a great way to use numbers in your scrapbooks, and we also love how Sharmon created her awesome stamped title on patterned paper!

Add dimension with folds | Jill Rugg
Whoa, Jill! What a creative way to interpret the fold challenge! Your sweet trees made out of our patterned paper and acrylic embellishments are just adorable!

Create an overlay | June Swart
Everything about this layout is amazing, from the fun overlay on the edge of June’s eclipse photo, to the way she used our FREE Solar Eclipse Printable, and recycled her solar specs onto the page! What a great way to document the day, June!

Get inspired by a sketch | Celena Estrada
We love the fun, effortless way that Celena matched elements up on this layout, as well as her Stanley Outline Alphabet stamped title! What a great interpretation of the sketch!
Thanks so much to everyone who participated in Challenge Day! We loved that you were inspired to create your beautiful projects and share them with us.

Family Traditions with Allie Stewart

Our new Family Fun collection is all about togetherness and the relationships that we share with the ones we love. Today, Allie Stewart is sharing a layout all about a special family tradition, using the beautiful, autumnal Family Fun color palette and patterns! Let’s see what she made.
Hello there! Today I’m excited to be sharing a layout using the gorgeous new Family Fun collection and the September exclusive products! I love all the beautiful, rich colors and fun patterns.

Supplies | September 2017 KitSeptember 2017 Digital Cut FileThankful Sticker LabelsAutumn SequinsAutumn Wood Veneer WordsFamily Fun Puffy StickersFamily Fun Acrylic ShapesFamily Fun 6″ x 6″ Paper StackFamily Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection
To create this layout, I started with the pie shape in the September 2017 Digital Cut File. I cut strips of patterned paper from the Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection, as well as the 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, and glued them onto the cut out pie wedges from the pie chart. I adhered each pie wedge behind the negative shape, and had a fun background!

Because the background is on the busy side, I used a black and white photo for contrast, matting it with white tissue paper to give it a softer look. Next, I cut a large “5” from the “so grateful” tag in the September 2017 Kit, and used the offset tool to mat it onto the woodgrain pattern.

I embellished by using one of the Autumn Wood Veneer Words for my title, along with the acrylic, puffy, and die cut hearts from the Family Fun collection and September 2017 Kit! Finally, I finished with the gorgeous Autumn Sequins and a Thankful Sticker Label!

I LOVED using the Family Fun collection to document a special tradition, and can’t wait to create more projects with it!

Family Fun + Title Builder with Alissa Fast

If you didn’t think that the Family Fun collection could get any better, pair it up with the Title Builder products to create something truly special and easy! Today, Alissa Fast is sharing a page where she’s done just that—and the result is a beautiful, autumnal layout! Let’s take a look.
Hello! It’s Alissa here today, with a page I created using the Family Fun collection and the truly brilliant Title Builder collection. Fall is my very favorite season and I take tons of photos every year. The Family Fun collection is perfect for fall photos, whether they are back to school or trips to the pumpkin patch, and the Title Builder supplies are great for every paper crafting project! There are so many options to create gorgeous titles for your mini albums, pages and cards!

Supplies | Family Fun Bundle, Family Fun Double-Sided Journaling TagsFamily Fun Bits and PiecesFamily Fun Word LabelsFamily Fun Blank LabelsFamily Fun 12×12 Paper Collection, Title Builder Wood Veneer, Title Builder AcrylicTitle Builder Stamp, Title Builder Alphabet Stamp
I love layering paper, and the Family Fun 12×12 Paper Collection is full of beautiful patterns that work perfectly together for layering. Add in the Family Fun Double-Sided Journaling Tags, which includes the green leaf 4″ x 6″ tag, and you’ve got even more layering options. I love that I can just tuck the tag behind my photo to add another fun pattern to the page.

I popped the triangular bunting from the Family Fun Bits and Pieces up on foam tape to create a fun fall banner along the bottom of the photo—super easy with a super cute result! No string needed. ☺

I used the Title Builder collection to create the title on a 3″ x 4″ tag from the Family Fun Double-Sided Journaling Tags. I love that the collection includes word and alphabet stamps, acrylic and wood veneer words. I stamped the small letters from the Title Builder Alphabet Stamp on another patterned 3″ x 4″ tag from the Double-Sided Journaling Tags, cut out and adhered.

Now, I challenge you to create a project using the Family Fun collection with the Title Builder products! You will love the results!
Have a great day!

Documenting a Whoops Moment with Neela Nalam

Not all stories deserving of documentation are happy ones, and today Neela Nalam is sharing her latest “whoops” moment in a pocket page using the September 2017 Kit. Let’s take a look.
Sometimes we have to document the not so great things. My kids spend more time than I like on their iPads and iPhones playing video games. When we visited my brother, they ended up playing in front of their baby cousin and she, of course, was so drawn to these devices.
I documented this lesson learned on a 6″ x 8″ pocket page that I made with the September 2017 Kit and add-ons. I wanted to have a yellow and blue color scheme for this pocket page spread, so I chose all the blue tags, as well as the tags from the kit with yellow accents which helped me tell my story perfectly.

Supplies | September 2017 Kit, What Happened Stamp, Family Fun AcrylicWhite Puffy Alphabet StickersGrey Puffy Alphabet Stickers
I used the flowchart tag to write down how she ended up between them when they were playing. I used the White Puffy Alphabet Stickers for my title.

I used the “this was a great idea” tag and added the word ‘NOT’ with the Grey Puffy Alphabet Stickers. I collected some yellow accents from past kits and added them to the tags to keep with the yellow and blue scheme.

I added a grey acrylic arrow shape from the Family Fun Acrylic, and also backed the photos with Family Fun 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack patterned papers, cut down to a 6″ x 4″ size. It was fun spread to make with all the products assisting to get my story told.

Family Fun with Tracey Fox

Today we welcome Tracey Fox back to the ES blog for her final post with us. For her first and second post she focused on our new exclusive kit and extras, but today she’s creating beautiful things with our new Family Fun collection! Let’s see what she created!
I have had SO much fun getting to play with Elle’s Studio’s awesome products as the September guest designer, and I’m especially excited to get to share one more project with you this month—this 12″ x 12″ page using the new Family Fun collection!

Supplies | Family Fun 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection, Family Fun Double-sided Journaling Tags, Family Fun Bits and Pieces, Family Fun Cutouts, Family Fun Puffy Stickers, Family Fun Stamp, Family Fun Acrylic Shapes
To best match this photo of my husband and our nephew and the gray circles on the background paper I chose from the collection, I went through the Family Fun collection and pulled only blue, red, and gray embellishments to use on my page. Not only do I love how these colors look together, but it made the layout come together so quickly once I limited my choices in this way.
Inspired by the trend I’ve been seeing lately of large circles on layouts, I knew I wanted to arrange the elements on my page in a large circle with my photo and title as focal points along it. I really love how the large, colorful circle looks against the background pattern of smaller, gray circles!

To create the focal points first, I cut my typed journaling into strips and arranged them on a tag from the Family Fun Bits and Pieces. I also stamped the words “Uncle & Nephew” using the Family Fun Stamp. (The stamps from the collection are so versatile for telling family stories, since they list so many different family relationships!) Using papers from the 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, I added layers behind the photo and a journaling tag to better anchor them on the page. I also added some baker’s twine to the tag and adhered the twine to the layout.

For the title, I used the printed “family” diecut from the Family Fun Bits and Pieces along with the word “fun” from the Family Fun Puffy Stickers.

Next, I arranged the blue, red, and gray embellishments I had chosen from the Family Fun Bits and Pieces, Puffy Stickers, Cutouts, and Acrylic in a large circle around the page. All of the little houses in the collection were perfect to help tell this story of a fun night at my parents’ house spent with family. I filled in some of the gaps in the circle with the plus signs from the Family Fun Stamp and a few ink splatters.
As a finishing touch, and for one last pop of red on the page, I added the heart-patterned branding strip from the one of the papers in the 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection along the side of the layout.
Thanks so much for checking out my pages this month. I know you will have as much fun as I had playing with this awesome new collection!

Stretching Your Supplies with Jen Schow

There are so many different ways to make Elle’s Studio products work for your layouts and pocket pages, and today Jen Schow is with us to share a few of her favorite “stretch your supplies” tricks, with a process video! Let’s see what she created.
Hey there! It’s Jen and today I want to show you a few ways that you can really stretch your supplies and make things work for you. I used the September 2017 Kit along with the 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack from the new Family Fun collection to create this layout.

Supplies | September 2017 Kit, Wood Veneer Borders, Autumn Sequins, Foodie Puffy Stickers, Family Fun 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack
One of my favorite things to do is cut the papers from the Family Fun 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack to make it look like they span the entire layout. By simply cutting your papers in half, lining them up, and layering them behind other papers, you can make it look like you have a full 12” strip of paper if you want to, like I did with the blue plaid and black text papers!

The second way I stretched my supplies was by using leftovers. For my title, I decided to fussy cut the words “So Proud of You!” out of one of the 3″ x 4″ journaling tags included in the September 2017 Kit. As I was creating my layout, I realized I would need another pop of yellow and decided to use the top and bottom of the card on the left and right hand sides of photo, stretching it in the same way I did with the 6″ x 6″ papers. This is something I actually do a lot!

The third thing I did wasn’t actually stretching my supplies, at least not in the way that you make things last longer. But I did make what I had work for what I needed and I think that’s important too! I wasn’t sure how to make my journaling fit the space I needed and I really wanted to use the “All the Details” journaling tag from the September 2017 Kit. It had a scalloped border beneath it that wasn’t quite right with the colors I was using, so I cut it off. Then I decided to take another card with lines on it, adhere it to the right of the phrase, and voila! I had a journaling spot that fit the space I needed!

What ways have you made your supplies work for you? I hope that you’ll give some of these ideas a try! If you want to see the whole thing come together, watch the process video below.
