A Rainbow of Mixed-Media Color with Heather Leopard

Our new May 2018 Kit + Noteworthy collection include a rainbow of products, so why not create a rainbow on your next layout? Design team member Heather Leopard did just that with her newest layout, all about good times! We know you’ll love it as much as we do! Let’s see what she made:

Hi everyone. It’s Heather Leopard here today with a supersized photo, some mixed media and just a few of my favorite things from the May 2018 Kit and the Noteworthy collection.

This entire layout was inspired by the Title Builder Vol. 2 Wood Veneer word, “good”, and the Good Times Acrylic word, “times.” I knew I wanted to use those together for a title, but I had no idea what photo to document. I started thinking about recent good times as a family and I went straight for carnival photos. I spotted some of my girls in this giant swing ride but I guess I didn’t snap the photos fast enough because I didn’t have a good one that featured them both. Then, I had a great idea to freeze one of the videos I had taken. It worked out great because I was able to go frame by frame and take a snapshot of the exact image I wanted—both girls having a good time!

My photo measures 6-1/2″ x 10″. I wanted the scale of the photo to be giant, just like this giant swing they were on. I started out by cutting some border strips from the Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection—some are from patterned paper manufacturer strips and others are patterned paper strips that I just cut down. Either way, I wanted something to “ground” my large photo to the page.

Next, I started lining up labels from the Noteworthy Cutouts and Noteworthy Word Labels, and cutting down 3″ x 4″ tags from the May Kit to make a rainbow cluster in the white space of the photo. I did this BEFORE I decided to add color behind it so I had to remove them, but before I did that, I went ahead and glued them to the photo. I liked where they were and didn’t want to guess how to put it all back. Once they were adhered, I also lifted the photo up and marked the areas with a pencil where each color began and ended so the ink would match the labels.

Next, I lifted the photo up and applied a generous amount of white gesso to the background. Once dried, I colored a rainbow on the page: the messier the better. Once that was dry, I added my photo back, stitched around it, over the labels and everything and added embellishments like the Gold Shapes and Dots Puffy Stickers, Puffy Heart Stickers — Spring Mix and Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers. I cut the yellow circle out of a 3″ x 4″ tag from the May Kit and used that to create an area for the “good times” title. Last but not least, I added journaling.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Introducing our May Guest Designer, Kim Watson!

We have a slew of new products in the shop, and that means we also have a new guest designer to create with our fun, new product! Please join me in welcoming Kim Watson to the Elle’s Studio blog! Kim’s projects are always full of interest provided by bold colors and lots of layering, and the projects that she’s sharing with us this month are no exception! Let’s take a look at what she’s sharing with us today.

Hi everyone! My name is Kim Watson and I’m super excited to be here guesting for Elle’s Studio this month. I have and always will be a huge fan of their clean style and graphic products, and the May 2018 Kit & latest collection definitely lived up to their awesome style and quality!

For todays post, I used the May 2018 Kit, as well as a few items from the Noteworthy collection. Inspired by the fabulous tags in the kit, with the fresh addition of purple, I set about to design a page full of layering, utilising as many of the fantastic bits included in the kit as I could.

Supplies | May 2018 Kit, Letter and Number Stickers — White, White Cardstock Alphabet Stickers, Hello Stamp, Noteworthy Cutouts, Noteworthy Bits and PiecesNoteworthy Wood VeneersNoteworthy Puffy Stickers, Noteworthy Epoxy StickersNoteworthy 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack, Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection, Noteworthy Stamp

This page as I mentioned was inspired by the “big idea” tag in the May 2018 Kit. It reminded me of the huge, after school sandwiches our son loves to make for himself. The stamped sentiment “all the yummy details” on the Hello Stamp is tailormade for this page, right?!

Little tabs, included in the May 2018 Kit and Noteworthy Bits and Pieces inserted under the first layered cluster allowed me to stamp & write the date. Mini die cuts, also in the Noteworthy Bits and Pieces, and Noteworthy Puffy Stickers add the perfect color flash on the stitched border.

A circle cut from patterned paper in the Noteworthy 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack became a great accent on top of the green dots, showing off the cute Noteworthy Wood Veneer arrow, label from the Noteworthy Cutouts and Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers perfectly.

Now the title cluster—I love the texture & variety here! A mixture of the Noteworthy Puffy Stickers, White Cardstock Alphabet Stickers, White Letter and Number Stickers, a preprinted sentiment included in the May 2018 Kit & wood heart circle make this a winning combo!

The photo and journaling cluster is a super fun mixture of Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers, die cuts included in the May 2018 Kit, a label from the Noteworthy Bits and Pieces & Noteworthy Puffy Stickers. Trimming the lined tag from the kit down into a tag shape and stamping the “that’s my story” journal prompt from the Hello Stamp not only gave me plenty of room to tell my story, but is adds another gorgeous layer to the design.

I live on a mountainside with her family in a beautiful seaside suburb just outside of Cape Town, South Africa. Life next to the ocean, surrounded by nature, gives me an endless source of content for my pages, which I would describe as being full of texture, layers, color and, of course, my trademark stitching. I am privileged to have been working in the scrapbooking industry for 12 years in many capacities, as designer, writer & in graphic design for product development. It is my passion & makes me excited to go to the office every day.

You can find more of my work on Instagram, my blog & YouTube.

Come back here next week to see what else Kim is creating with our new May Kit, add-ons and Noteworthy collection!

Life Together Using Title Builder Vol. 2 with Susan Brochu

Our Title Builder Vol. 2 products were designed to help you create titles for your paper crafting products, but they can also create a large design feature on a scrapbook layout, as design team member Susan Brochu is so beautifully sharing with us today! Let’s take a look:

Hello everyone! Today I’m sharing a layout featuring the fun and versatile Title Builder Vol. 2 collection.  While this product is mainly intended to help you add a title to your projects, I used it for embellishing and journaling as well!  I knew that I wanted to use the set to make a long title for my page and the first piece that caught my eye was the “life” word from the Title Builder Vol. 2 Wood Veneer. Between the stamps, acrylic and wood veneer words, there were plenty of options to help me arrive at a title to pair with a collection of family photos.

Supplies | Title Builder Vol. 2 StampTitle Builder Vol. 2 AcrylicTitle Builder Vol. 2 Wood VeneerNoteworthy Puffy StickersNoteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection

I arranged the words in a vertical line down the center of the cardstock and did my stamping in a few different colored inks to help my title stand out from all the black and white photos. I mixed in the “crazy” acrylic word and two wood veneer words to add a little more life to the title.

You might notice that I stamped just a portion of the Title Builder Vol. 2 Stamp‘s words in my title and I wanted to show you how I did that.  One option would have been to carefully ink only the portion of the stamp that I wanted to use, but honestly, I didn’t trust myself to do that without making a mistake! Instead, I used a piece of washi tape to cover the unwanted portion, inked up my stamp, removed the washi tape and then stamped right onto the cardstock. It worked perfectly!

I also added some of the “sparkles” from the Title Builder Vol. 2 Stamp to embellish my title and, as I mentioned earlier, the title serves as my journaling, too. I sprinkled in a few Noteworthy Puffy Stickers, backed the page on a rainbow-colored patterned paper from the Noteworthy 12″ x 12″ Paper Collection and stitched the branding strip from another Noteworthy paper to the top and bottom of the page to break up all the vertical lines on the layout.

The Title Builder Vol. 2 products include plenty of options to help you add the perfect title to your projects, and you can also use it for embellishing and journaling—I’m looking forward to seeing how you use it!

Pocket Tips and Tricks Using Noteworthy with Nathalie Leonelli

We’ve shared quite a lot of Noteworthy inspiration here on the blog already, and most of it has been on scrapbook layouts. How about we explore how beautifully Noteworthy can be used on pocket page spreads? Pocket page creative extraordinaire Nathalie Leonelli is with us today to give us some tips and tricks on how to make your pockets work with what you’re documenting, and we know you will love the marriage of her amazing style and the Noteworthy collection! Let’s take a look:

I couldn’t wait to dig into the new Noteworthy collection! I love its colors and the many coordinating elements! Since I was making a pocket page in my everyday album, I concentrated on the Noteworthy Journaling tags but I also played with so many bits and bobs! I love the bits and bobs!

Supplies | Everyday Goodness Stickers, Mini Dated Stamp, Foodie StampNoteworthy Double-Sided Journaling Tags, Noteworthy Word Labels, Noteworthy Cutouts, Noteworthy Bits and Pieces, Noteworthy Puffy Stickers, Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers

Did you know that the Noteworthy Journaling Tags are double-sided? They have different patterns and colors on each side, giving you so many great options to build your page!

I first picked my two favorites in the pack, they were both 4″ x 6″ and they set the tone for my project. I used the striped one on the top left with my dates and the other one on the bottom right… I’ll talk more about that one below.

Because I had many photos I didn’t want to dedicate a whole tag to the dates this time, so I stamped them on a tag from the Noteworthy Bits and Pieces using the Mini Dated Stamp and just added the top part. I then embellished with some Noteworthy Puffy Stickers. I love the two-tone dots!

Since I like to mix my embellishments, I also used several of the Noteworthy Epoxy Stickers on tags, on flags and directly on the photo. They not only add a different texture to the spread, but they are also a great way to bring another touch of color. I am always so conscious of color balance on my pages!

I love the look of this spread but the “pièce de résistance” for me is that bottom right pocket! I really wanted to combine that particular “real life” 4″ x 6″ tag with the quote and that 4″ x 6″ photo. I didn’t want to cut the photo, so I had to cut the tag. I stopped short of fussy cutting each letter and chose to create flags with each word, lining them up with the left edge of the photo.

I love the way they lift at the end matching the lift of my boy’s jump in the photo.

To summarize, a few tips:

  • You don’t have room for a title card? Just add your dates on the top part of a tag or label, still leaving you room for photos
  • You don’t want to cut the photo? Cut the part of the tag you want to use and be creative with it!
  • You don’t like a card right side up, use it upside down and put a label on top (I am cheating here as I never talked about it but can you guess which tag it is?)

I hope this pocket page inspires you to grab a set of Noteworthy Double-Sided Journaling Tags (they’re only $3.75!) and a few matching embellishments! They are very versatile and will brighten your project with a rainbow of colors.

See you next time and until then, happy scrapping!

National Scrapbooking Day 2018!

Welcome to National (or International for our overseas friends) Scrapbooking Day at Elle’s Studio! We are so excited to have you here! We love that this hobby not only allows us to express ourselves in a creative way, but also document our memories and get our photos printed, while connecting with like-minded people!

First, To help you document your important memories, and celebrate this fun day, we have a free printable for you, our valued customers! Simply stop by our website, put the free printable in your cart and check out! We can’t wait to see the projects you create with it!

We love digital printable and cut files here at Elle’s Studio, so for this special weekend we’ve made all of the digitals in our shop 50% off! You can add these staples to your digital library to create with over and over again on your scrapbook layouts and pocket pages!

Along with sharing our free printable, and giving you a huge discount on our digital printable and cut files, we’ve created five challenges based on design team projects to inspire your creativity this weekend! Use them to document in a scrapbook layout, pocket page or traveler’s notebook using at least one Elle’s Studio product, and you could win one of the three prizes outlined below!

Challenge #1 | Create a column of embellishment, like Melissa Mann did here using our monthly kit and add-ons on the side of her photo. This fun three-dimensional grouping adds so much texture and interest to her page and can easily be re-created with a variety of embellishments!

Challenge #2 | Fill a die-cut negative space! Use your favorite cut file, then cut it out and fill with paper, tags or embellishments, like Nancy Damiano did here! She used our March 2018 Digital Cut File and puffy stickers.

Challenge # 3 | Add mixed-media to your project! Get inspired by the colors from our products and add paint, mist, paste—whatever medium you’d like to your page to give it texture and added color and interest, like Meghann Andrew did on this page created with the January Digital Cut File.

Challenge #4 | Color block you page elements, like design team member Daniela did on this colorful page using the March 2018 Kit and add-ons. This is a great way to add loads of color to your project without making it too overwhelming!

Challenge #5 | Use repetition on your design. We love how Laura Wonsik created movement and interest on this page by using similar photos, repeating horizontal lines using our Everyday Goodness Stickers and small circles stamped with our Noteworthy Stamp. Use repeating elements on your next project to create unity and movement.

Just for creating a project based on one of the challenges above, using at least one Elle’s Studio product (this could even be our free printable!), you could win one of three gift cards: $50 for the grand prize, $25 for second place and $10 for third place. Winners will be selected randomly from the entry posts, so the more projects you create based on the challenges above, the better your chance of winning!

Each project will count as one entry, even if you have included multiple challenges in that project. Please post a comment on this blog post for each project you create including the challenge number and Instagram post or blog post link to your project image. (If you want to use Instagram to post your entry, please post your photo on Instagram, using the hashtag #EllesStudio, then tap on the three dots ( … ) above the photo. Select “Share” and then select “Copy Link”. This is the URL you will use when posting your entry comment here.

Entries will close at 11:59pm PST on Saturday May 12th, and winners will be announced on May 14th! Good luck, and we can’t wait to see what you create!

On the right, we are loving how @mylifemylensphotography used our April 2018 Kit to create a word-heavy pocket page spread.

How fun is the background that @lifeinlayouts created on the left using tags from our monthly kits, as well as our XOXO 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack? We also spy our Live Laugh Love Wood Veneers and new Yellow Puffy Alphabet Stickers on her fun layout! On the right, @carolinas_creations used scraps from our earlier collections and tags to create ready-made, dimensional filler tags for her pocket pages. We think they are just beautiful!

With a monthly subscription, you will be guaranteed a kit each month, lock in our launch day special price of $9.99 + shipping, and receive FREE (USA) or reduced (International) shipping on anything added to your box each month during our 24 hour bundling period (starting on the 10th at 8:00 am PST and ending on the 11th at 8:00 am PST). Along with more time to shop, our subscribers will also have access to special discounts on select items during the 24 hour bundling period! These discounted items can be found in our SALE section during bundling, and you must be logged into your kit subscriber account to see them. Quick note: Our kits and add-ons are available without a subscription each month, too.
