Documenting Wish Lists with Guest Designer Kira Ness!

We are so excited to welcome our final guest for 2018, the lovely and talented Kira Ness! Kira’s colorful and textural layouts and traveler’s notebook spreads have us always amazed at her talent and we are so excited to see what magic she creates using our November kit and add-ons this month! Let’s take a look at her first project!

First off, I am absolutely thrilled to be contributing as guest designer for Elle’s Studio.  I’ve been a fan of Elle’s products since I started scrapbooking so this is such a dream come true to be here with you!

For my first project this month, I decided to document our annual letters to Santa.  My boys are still too young to write their own letters, so mostly I use the question, “What do you want to ask Santa for?” to gather ideas for their Amazon wish lists, that I then pass on to the grandparents, and I usually print a few pictures of the gifts they want and let them glue the photos on a “Dear Santa” letter.

But this year when I was asking my oldest son what he wanted, we basically got into an argument about what he wanted to ask for.  And I thought, okay, this definitely needs to go in my December album, regardless of it being October when this happened!

I started by cutting my cardstock down to 6″ x 8″, which is my preferred December album size.  I printed my story on one of the pages, but felt it needed to be jazzed up a bit, which was made simple with the greenery found on the Merry Moment Stamp.  I love the little dot stamps that are included to make cute, little berries on my garland.

I also love the circle “a day to remember” from the Merry Moment Stamp!  It reminds me of a round date stamp, which this postal wife went gaga for!  I cut out a few circles on my Cricut (since I didn’t have a circle punch the size of the stamp) and created lots of multi colored die cuts with that stamp.  For this layout, I punched out the center, attached some foam dots to the back and layered the “pure magic” stamp underneath.

On the reverse page, I did the same garland stamping on the top and bottom.  Then I added a few photos from the wish lists, backed with the green striped paper from the Merry and Bright 6″ x 6″ Paper Stack. Since the photos were mostly my youngest son’s picks, and since the story on the reverse side was not about him, I added a tiny bit of journaling on a label and placed it in the center of the layout.

Finally, I added the title “Dear Santa” using the red Jane Alphabet Stickers, but felt the page looked unfinished with a gap at the bottom.  The brackets from these alphas inspired my “naughty or nice” check boxes. I hand cut the check mark and thought for a long time where I was going to place it.  Ultimately my kids made the nice list!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Hey there! My name is Kira and I am a thirty something wife to my best friends and mother to two energetic toddler boys. I am a Seattle native, but moved to San Antonio a little over a year ago. I started scrapbooking in October 2016 at the prompting of a friend and was immediately hooked. I started as a 12″ x 12″ scrapbooker, but switched to 8.5″ x 11″ a few months ago on a whim. I also love the ease of documenting in a travelers notebook. Along with scrapbooking, I also find joy in other crafts like embroidery, macramé and drawing. I asked for a loom for Christmas, and hope to start yet another hobby. Other than crafting, I love spending time with my family, binge watching shows on Netflix, and texting my friends. You can see more of my work, and get little glimpses of my life on Instagram, my blog and my YouTube feed!

Have you documented what’s on your family’s wish list this year? Take a cue from Kira and get this important December memory in your album using our November kit and add-ons! Be sure to stop back here next week for another inspiring post from Kira!
